(Stellaria medea) Annual in the Pink Family, cosmopolitan in distribution. Bright green ground-cover with small, white star-shaped flowers (hence the name “Stellaria”). Dies back entirely in hot, dry weather; is forgotten by July. An excellent Spring Tonic food: make a salad of Chickweed, Dandelion, Plantago and Wild Cress when nothing else is around. Fall-sprouted plants can withstand repeated hard frosts. Medicinally, used internally for urinary tract and blood-cleansing, and topically for skin inflammations and eczema. According to Richo Cech of Horizon Herbs, the fresh greens also make excellent chicken fodder, increasing egg size and nutritional content!
Planting suggestions: Direct-sow early Spring. Full sun to part shade. Do not bother to thin. Harvest freely when greens become abundant. Entire plant including flowers edible.
Contains at least 50 seeds. Packed for 2016.
