(Marrubium vulgarePerennial in the Mint Family native to the Mediterranean. Clumps of fuzzy grey foliage send out flowering stems in all directions, including prostrate. Small white flowers are popular with bees. One of the few plants with a Hebrew-dervied name; “marrob” = “bitter”, which describes the flavor. Medicinally used for lung ailments, and to aid digestion (like many bitter-flavored herbs). Horehound Candy is a famous and delicious treat for sore throats which you can make at home.

Cultivation & harvesting suggestions:
Sow seeds in Spring around the time of the last Frost, either in flats or directly in the garden. Give 12-18” spacings, some water until established. Not particular about soil type; in fact, will thrive in heavy clay with a plow-pan! Harvest flowering tops when blooming begins.
