Rue – seed packet

(Ruta graveolens) Hardy Perennial in the Citrus Family, native to the Mediterranean. Regally ornamental blue-green foliage was model for Club symbol on playing cards. Exquisite flowers: four yellow petals and four flung-out stamens surround a bright green, superior ovary that resembles a tiny pock-skinned citrus fruit. 12-24” tall. Prized by the French as a kitchen herb. Use sparingly; is toxic in larger doses. History of medicinal and magical use; said to provide “protection”, so we have often posted it at doorways. Drought and frost-tolerant.

Planting suggestions: Tolerates poor or heavy soils; thrives in regular garden soil. Full sun. Can be container gardened. Direct-seed after Final Frost, or sow earlier in flats that are kept warm. Thin to 12” first year, 24” in later seasons. Needs no frost protection.

Contains at least 50 seeds. Packed for 2016.
