(Prunella vulgaris) Perennial in the Mint Family native to Europe and now distributed widely in disturbed areas (such as cities). Mostly prostrate growth habit, with flowering stems up to 12” tall. Purple blossoms well-loved by bees, especially bumble bees. Eaten in salads, boiled for tea. As medicine, has been used internally and externally for a multitude of ailments – more than we can name here. Hence the very general name. Look this one up yourself, and discover a great plant.
Cultivation & harvesting suggestions:
Sow seeds in early Spring. Thin plants to 6-12” apart. Thrives in a diversity of conditions, from full-sun to part-shade. Not particular about soil-type. Drought-tolerant once established. Harvest flowering-tops when blooming begins.
