Description

(Ocimum sanctum / Ocimum tenuiflorum) Beloved herb of India, where it is valued by Ayurvedic Medicine, and considered sacred by the Hindus.  A charming and pleasantly floral plant with a unique minty flavor, almost like chewing gum.  We enjoy putting sprigs in our drinking water; very refreshing in hot weather.  Dry the leaves for tea in the Winter.  As a medicine, Tulsi is adaptogenic, helping the body deal with different environmental stresses, including pollution and radiation. Tulsi has also been used as an expectorant, and to treat colds and headaches.  Dried roots said to be a treatment for premature ejaculation.

Cultivation & harvesting suggestions: A Summer crop, planted like ordinary pesto-type Basil. Start in flats inside or in a greenhouse around the time of the last frost. Transplant out when plants have at least two pairs of true leaves.  Rich soil, plenty of sun, regular watering.  Also grows well in pots.  Harvest leaves and/or flowering tops.

At least 50 seeds. Packed for 2021.
